As previously discussed on factor[e]'s blog, there are primarily two types of applications you can develop for mobile platforms: HTML5 apps, which consist of web technologies like CSS, Javascript, and modern HTML capabilities, and are encapsulated within a browser; and native apps, which are written in source code that is compiled and then run directly on the device's processor, without the intermediate layer of a browser. There are various advantages to each approach, but at this point, if you want to take full advantage of the capabilities of a given mobile device, there is no question that native apps have the edge.
