Moving Into Mobile

As previously discussed on factor[e]'s blog, there are primarily two types of applications you can develop for mobile platforms: HTML5 apps, which consist of web technologies like CSS, Javascript, and modern HTML capabilities, and are encapsulated within a browser; and native apps, which are written in source code that is compiled and then run directly on the device's processor, without the intermediate layer of a browser. There are various advantages to each approach, but at this point, if you want to take full advantage of the capabilities of a given mobile device, there is no question that native apps have the edge. They are faster, tie in better with the underlying hardware, and can be used to create more compelling experiences. Read more...
